What is MaPPs?

MaPPs is an innovative new service that produces a summary of ALL of a patient’s medication in electronic format, which can be printed and/or stored for uploading to clinical records. Ashtons is providing this service at no extra cost to our hospital clients.

Who's it for?

MaPPs can be used for a variety of purposes, and would be beneficial for: Patients being discharged Patients given TTO’s Patients struggling to understand their condition and medication regime Patients not taking their medication properly - Improving knowledge can improve compliance

How to use

Hospital staff can access the service online and within minutes produce a report which can be printed or downloaded as a PDF file. The PDF can then be added to the patient’s electronic care record. Staff just need to enter a patient’s name, then select each medicine from a drop-down menu. The medicines include ALL prescribed drugs that are listed in the BNF.

Designed with patients in mind

The individual report for the patient lists each drug followed by a simplified, easy to read summary of the main actions that is written at the right level for patients to understand.

This summary can be given to patients to provide information to support informed consent. It is very common for patients to state that they do not know what drugs they’re prescribed, their purpose or main side-effects.

The information provided by the patient profile summary will also promote patient involvement in their medication treatment and address an important issue where patients frequently report to the Care Quality Commission that they do not receive information about their medication.
